About being beautiful

Have you ever heard of a Selena Gomez song “Who says?”
The lyrics goes something like this:

I'm no beauty queen
I'm just beautiful me

There is a reason why I made you read the lyrics of this song. These days I see people, especially girls posting about how much they feel that they are ugly and feel like a retard in their life for not being gorgeous. Let me tell you girls, the grass on the other side always looks greener. No matter how hard we try we girls (by nature) tend to evaluate the beauty of others by their appearance (at least to some extent.) I am not saying it’s a bad thing. But the thing which I detest is how we compare our self to be not as beautiful or not as sexy as the other friend. We aren’t realizing this but by doing such comparisons we sure are disrespecting our self.

We always say we need to love our self and accept the way we are. Yes, we obviously need to do some efforts to accelerate the level of success. But using the term “ugly” to oneself and posting it on Facebook, Twitter or Snapchat is going to take you nowhere. Well, even if you are an attention seeker and you want people to have concern on you, it is really a pathetic way of grabbing people’s attention. I am girl of 20 and based on personal experiences (having more guys as friends), guys never think of you as an ugly girl. Never! (Just by the way how you look)

Dear girls, please respect yourself and stop posting the quotes about how much ugly you are. We talk about body shaming and body positivism these days. We try our best to defend for those people who are being body shamed by others. But by regarding oneself as the “ugliest one,” are we doing the correct implementation about body positivism? NO! Love yourself. Love how you look. If you don’t like how you look, do some make overs. If you don’t like the scars or moles on your face, do some make up. My point here is, do anything to make yourself feel good.

There’s this thing one has to study in psychology, if you say or regard something in a repetitive action, then it becomes your habit. You slowly start to accept it as a truth unconsciously. So for instance, you posted something about yourself being ugly and unwanted. You time and again see such stuffs and your mind captures it and imprints it in the sub-conscious. And slowly, you start accepting that you are an unwanted ugly person. And trust me, no one wants to feel such way intentionally.  Like the verse mentioned above, no one wants you to be a beauty queen. Wanting yourself to be the most beautiful woman in the world is so uncanny because the definition of “being beautiful” differs from person to person. Just be you. Trying saying that you are one beautiful soul to yourself at least a day.

I am not here to tell you how you should live your life. That’s totally not my point. The message that I want to convey is being unique is beautiful, being different than others is being beautiful and most importantly, loving the way you are is being beautiful. Just read this lyrics of Gomez’s song and feel it:

Who says, who says you're not perfect?

Who says you're not worth it?
Who says you're the only one that's hurtin'?
Trust me, that's the price of beauty
Who says you're not pretty?
Who says you're not beautiful?
Who says?
